As the president declared a state of emergency over the new coronavirus, shoppers swarmed area grocery stores, loading up on canned goods and cleaning supplies. Toilet paper and bottled water seemed to be among the first items to run out in many markets. Shoppers then moved on to something to hold extra food supplies — freezers were out of stock in at least one area big box store Saturday.
