Jayden Downing was untouchable Wednesday as the Oakmont Regional baseball team stormed past Auburn in a 4-0 win in the Central Mass. Athletic Directors Association Class B quarterfinals in Ashburnham.
The senior tossed a no-hitter for the Spartans (17-2), striking out seven in seven innings, while Colby Gouldrup had two hits and drove in a pair in the win.
Johnny Lasordo and Ben Forbes each notched a pair of hits for Oakmont.
The Spartans will host Northbridge in the Class B semifinals Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
Ayer-Shirley 7, Clinton 3: John Iannacone delivered three RBI for the Panthers (13-5) in the victory.
Grafton 5, North Middlesex 2: Kyle Lynch and Kyle Lewis each drove in a run for the Patriots, while Jackson Hendley went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the loss.
Shrewsbury 17, North Middlesex 3: The loss drops the Patriots to 5-11.
Ayer-Shirley 3, Worcester Tech 2: The Panthers won by set scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-14, 25-27 and 15-9.
Senior outside hitter Santiago Salazar had 10 kills and six aces for the Panthers (5-11), while junior setter and middle hitter David Batchelor had17 assists, 10 kills four aces and three blocks.
Former St. Bernard’s standout and current Endicott senior Dom Valera has earned a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention accolade.
The Fitchburg native has been selected to play in the USILA Senior All-Star Game after a season that saw him notch 23 goals and 24 assists to go with 20 ground balls in 18 games.
Valera, a midfielder, was also named to the Commonwealth Coast Conference All-Conference first team for his efforts and picked up the CCC Scholar Athlete of the Year award. He currently sports a 3.86 cumulative GPA as a marketing major at Endicott.
