With the devastating losses from the Maui wildfires mounting, people across the country are organizing to and seeking out how to best lend a hand.
As of Monday, the wildfires have left 96 dead — with the toll expected to rise as searches continue — along with thousands displaced and seeking shelter and an estimated total cost of nearly $6 billion, according to Hawaii Gov. Josh Green.
“If possible, state and local officials recommend donations of cash to reputable nonprofit organizations active in Hawai‘i, which will allow the nonprofits to buy and provide exactly the goods and services required to meet the needs of survivors,” the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency said in a release.
