‘The Nutcracker’ at Hanover Theatre to feature Westford dancer

WORCESTER — Ring in the festivities this holiday season with The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts production of the dazzling ballet “The Nutcracker,” sponsored by Berkshire Bank.

Starting Friday, Nov. 24, experience the captivating choreography and effects of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet, featuring stunning lighting and scenery by Broadway designers.

This year, Westford resident Olivia Galpin will be featured in the Hanover Theatre’s holiday ballet.

The tale follows young Clara as she receives a nutcracker doll for Christmas; she enters a magical world where the nutcracker and other characters come to life. This year Teddy Grillo, a former conservatory student, will reprise his role as the Nutcracker Prince for the second year in a row.

Tickets are on sale now for five shows scheduled during the last week of November; shows are set for Nov. 24-25, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m.

Hanover Theatre features Edgar Allan Poe, Shakespeare this season

WORCESTER — The Hanover Theatre Repertory is thrilled to announce its captivating 2023-2024 season lineup. Building upon the resounding success of its inaugural season, the Repertory Theatre continues to showcase outstanding theatrical productions created in and for Worcester.

The season includes “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams playing Sept. 28 – Oct.15, the “Edgar Allan Poe Double Header” playing Oct. 26-28, and a rotating repertory of new play “Judith” by Katie Bender together with Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” playing April 18 – May 12, 2024.

Auditions for the Hanover Theatre Repertory (THTR) 2023-2024 season will be held at the BrickBox Theater in the Jean McDonough Arts Center Aug. 28 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. with a break from 2-3 p.m. and Aug. 29 from 1-9 p.m. with a break from 5-6 p.m.

The season starts with the highly anticipated staging of Tennessee Williams’ timeless masterpiece, “The Glass Menagerie.” This emotionally charged play, hailed as one of the greatest American classics, will transport viewers into a world of tender vulnerability and poignant introspection. Running from Sept. 28 – Oct. 15 at the BrickBox Theater, this production promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Due to popular demand, the “Edgar Allan Poe Double Header” returns for another year to haunt the BrickBox Theater! Join Livy Scanlon, a creator, performer and artistic director, for a journey into the dark and mysterious realms of the iconic poet’s short-stories, plus witness an all-new killer encore. Playing three nights only Oct. 26-28 at the BrickBox Theater, this mesmerizing performance will send shivers down your spine.

In a unique twist, THTR will conclude the season with a rotating repertory of two enthralling productions. “Judith,” a new play by Katie Bender presented in partnership with Urbanite Theatre in Sarasota, Fla., is a thought-provoking solo show that explores self-worth, ambition and queer identity.

Meanwhile, “Twelfth Night,” one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, will bring laughter to the stage through music, mischief, and mistaken identities. Directed by Brendon Fox, the productions will run in rotation from April 18 – May 12, 2024 at the BrickBox Theater.

The Hanover Theatre Repertory remains committed to providing a diverse range of theatrical experiences, showcasing the talent of remarkable artists while making space for audiences of all ilk. All shows in the 2023-2024 season follow a tiered ticketing system that invites audience members to pay based on the honor system. Guests can choose from subsidized ticket prices up through “Angel Plus” ticket prices, depending on their ability to give back and help sustain the future of THTR.

Leominster teen plays part in ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ this weekend

WORCESTER — Leominster teen Gianna Doherty will be taking the stage three times this coming weekend in the Hanover Theatre’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”

The performances are following session two of the Youth Summer Program (YSP) at the Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts. Doherty will be portraying Grandma Tzeitel in the play and has one performance on Friday at 7 p.m. and two performances on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Hanover Theatre Conservatory provides performance opportunities, classes, and individual instruction in theatre, dance and technical theatre and design to more than 500 young people and adults from across central Massachusetts each year.

Many conservatory students have continued their pursuit of the arts at institutions such as Emerson College, Boston University, NYU, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee College of Music, Hofstra, Hartt School at the University of Hartford, Marymount Manhattan College, Syracuse University and more.

Students receive access to master classes with national touring artists and gain professional experience from performance opportunities with THT Rep and on The Hanover Theatre’s world-class stage. They also provide financial aid for those in need.

Leominster youth in Fiddler on the Roof JR. this weekend at Hanover Theatre

WORCESTER — Leominster youth Casey Olinde will be performing in “Fiddler on the Roof JR.” tomorrow as part of the Pre-Teen Session of the Youth Summer Program at the Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts.

The local performer will be taking the stage Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. and at 6 p.m. Casey Olinde will be playing the part of Mordcha.

Featuring iconic and beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were a Rich Man” and “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,”  this adaptation of Fiddler on the Roof  is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart. The nine-time Tony-Award-winning Broadway musical follows Tevye the milkman as he tries to protect his daughters and his way of life from a changing world. Fiddler on the Roof JR. tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion.
