Person dies in fall at Boston Theater District construction site, police say
A person died in a fall at a construction site in Boston’s Theater District Friday, police said.
The incident was reported about 12:45 p.m. at a building on Tremont Street, less than a block from Boston Common, according to Boston police.
It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the fall. Police said the person was pronounced dead at the scene and that detectives were investigating.
First responders were seen outside the Majestic Theater. It wasn’t immediately clear if the construction site incident took place there.

Massachusetts’ tax-free weekend is coming up. Get ready here.
It’s one of the weekends of the year for people who love saving money!
This Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11, are Massachusetts’ sales tax holiday, in which many things you can buy — but not everything — are tax-free.
No sales tax will be charged to most of the items you can buy at stores in the Bay State throughout the weekend, though sales tax is still applied to items that cost $2,500 or more.
Among the limitations are that the item has to be bought by a person for their individual use, not a business use, according to Massachusetts’ FAQ page about the tax-free weekend.
There are plenty of things that still get sales tax applied, including the purchase of meals, vehicles, gas, utilities, alcohol and tobacco and marijuana products.
And if you’re buying items online, good news: if you order and pay for them them during the holiday, measured by Eastern Daylight Time, sales tax won’t be charged, even if the item comes after the weekend is over.

Mass. couple hit, killed by car in front of daughter in Florida
A couple from Massachusetts were hit and killed by a car in front of their daughter while visiting Lakeland, Florida, this week, according to NBC affiliate WFLA.
The parents were hit by a Toyota Yaris at about 11 p.m. Wednesday while trying to cross South Florida Avenue, Lakeland police said.
“The crosswalks are very marked and pronounced, and it’s well-lit,” Lakeland Police Officer Stephanie Kerr told WFLA. “It’s a business area, so even though it’s late at night, there still can be pedestrians walking around.”
The 7-year-old daughter wasn’t injured, according to police, who said she was taken to a family member’s home.
The family was staying at a hotel near South Florida Avenue, according to WFLA.
The victims were identified as 54-year-old Ronald Jeanbaptiste and 46-year-old Yanique Pierre, both of Everett.
The driver of the car, identified as a 22-year-old Lakeland woman, had a green light and remained on scene, witnesses told WFLA.
The 22-year-old woman didn’t show any signs of impairment, police said. She wasn’t cited or charged.
