A woman was taken to the hospital and a driver was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Beverly, Massachusetts, over the weekend, police said.
The crash occurred at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday on Rantoul Street.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been struck, Beverly police said.
Witnesses at the scene gave officers a description of the vehicle, which was shared with surrounding agencies, according to police.
The woman was taken to Beverly Hospital before she was flown to Boston with serious injuries. Her name wasn’t immediately released.
While on scene, Essex police notified Beverly police that a vehicle matching the description was stopped in their town and the driver told officers he “may have struck someone with his car,” authorities said.
The driver was arrested, police said.
The crash remains under investigation.

The best place to view the eclipse in totality on Monday will be up in northern New England, and there’s bound to be lots of traffic heading up there.
Some people started the trek up north Sunday, others started already Monday morning.
While the total solar eclipse will cut across more than a dozen states, the weather and cloud cover mean that northern New England is going to be one of the best places to get a clear, unobstructed view of the rare event.
New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine are expected to be busy.
In fact, AAA Northeast said the traffic before and after the solar eclipse is expected to be like traffic for a holiday weekend!
So, anyone just thinking of casually heading to New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine, just know you’re not alone.
AAA said you’ll be joined by an estimated 160,000 others looking for the perfect place to pull over for a few hours and watch.
Police in New Hampshire are warning people to be prepared with your own snacks and water, gas up before you get up there and be prepared for the added traffic.

What a day to get outside! The start of the week is looking gorgeous and finally feeling like spring.
Highs Monday will be in the low 60s with mostly clear skies. What a treat for those who intend on viewing the partial eclipse from Boston. Plenty of sun and mild temperatures thanks to a steady northwest breeze.
If you’re traveling to the path of totality, the forecast will feature a few more upper-level clouds, making appear hazy, but it likely won’t be a deal breaker for viewing.

Also, for those traveling to northern New England, keep in mind that many side roads and “secluded hideouts” off the beaten path are snowbound from the previous storms. Snowpack ranges from a half foot to over a foot and a half.
There’s plenty of mud, slush and headaches if you try to venture off in the woods. Be safe and stay alert.
Tuesday, a sea breeze will kick up cooling the coastal locations to the mid-50s. Further inland, highs will sore back to the low and mid-60s. Tuesday is looking clear and nice before clouds build in with a scattered shower possible Wednesday.

Thursday and Friday will be wet, a good batch of rain will enter and make for a not-so-great end of the week.
Temperatures will hold steady in the upper 50s to low 60s through the weekend.
