LITTLETON — State Police are still investigating a fatal crash last week that involved a 22-year-old Leominster woman who was driving on the wrong side of the road when she collided with another vehicle.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on Aug. 17, State Police from the Concord Barracks responded to a crash that involved a Dodge SUV and a Mazda CX-5 in the eastbound lane of Rt. 2 in Littleton, according to a press release from the State Police.
Police said that a “preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Dodge, a 22-year-old Leominster woman, entered Route 2 eastbound traveling in the wrong direction. The Dodge then struck the Mazda head on in the area of the 114-mile marker in Littleton.”
The operator of the Mazda, Geetika Guruprasad, 25, of Somerville was transported to Emerson Hospital in Concord where she was pronounced dead. The Leominster woman driving the Dodge sustained serious injuries in the crash.
The crash is still under investigation by the State Police Concord Barracks and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. MassDOT and Littleton Fire and EMS responded to the scene as well.
The driver of the Dodge will be charged with negligent operation of a motor vehicle, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and a wrong way violation, and will appear at Concord District Court at a later date. Charges may be amended later as a result of further evidence.
