PEPPERELL — Students of Michelle Stapel’s third grade class at Varnum Brook Elementary School recently met their yearlong “grandparent” penpals for the first time.
When the penpals met, each child received a memorable gift and each grandparent received a flower to bring home. Refreshments were served, great conversations were had, and everyone had time to play cards or board games to get to know their penpals better.
Stapel said the children love receiving their monthly letters and she sees a great improvement in the student’s writing skills. The
“grandparents” think the program is wonderful and look forward to the program next year with new third grade students.
