The Bulldogs are moving on.
Jess Mueller stepped up in a big way for the Monty Tech softball team Friday, lifting the 28th-seeded Bulldogs past No. 37 Dennis-Yarmouth, 8-4, in a Div. 3 preliminary contest.
With her team trailing 3-2 in the third, Mueller notched an RBI single to tie the game before Ashley Sevigny and Jessica Higbee each notched an RBI to put the Bulldogs (16-5) up 5-3. The hosts never trailed again.
Mueller added some insurance in the sixth, rapping a two-run single with the bases loaded for some breathing room. She finished the contest with three hits and four RBI.
Ashley Sevigny had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, while Danielle Belliveau had two hits, scored twice and stole four bases. Hannah Seymour scored a pair of runs, reaching twice on walks and stealing two bags.
Bailey Tammaro picked up the win, going the distance and allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out five.
Monty Tech advances to the round of 32 and will hit the road to face No. 5 Middleboro (17-4) on Monday.
Volleyball
Leominster 3, Southwick Regional 0 The Blue Devils (14-5) won 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 in a Div. 2 preliminary match and advance to face No. 3 Westfield in the round of 32 on Sunday.
Dan Caetano led the way with 12 kills, 15 service points and six digs, while Andy Truong had 27 assists, eight service points and six digs. Tony Truong chipped in with nine kills, six service points and a block.
Girls tennis
Danvers 3, Leominster 2 The 36th-seeded Blue Devils (12-5) fell in a Div. 2 preliminary matchup, with Arielle Kouadio winning in first singles action and the duo of Gina Iacaboni and Kaitlyn Perrault winning in second doubles to improve to 6-0 on the year.
